I am an artist, author and helped start the global movement Food Not Bombs in 1980 with seven friends. I spent my childhood living at National Parks including the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Big Bend in Texas. I studied painting and sculpture at Boston University. My artistic focus as have been the painting images of Food Not Bombs in gouache or opaque watercolor, on paper.
What I enjoy most is helping collect, cook and share vegan meals with my local Food Not Bombs chapter in Santa Cruz, California. I have been arrested for what the police said was ”making a political statement" in San Francisco. The district attorney claimed I spent over 500 nights in jail when I settled a Three Strikes case where I faced 25 years to life in prison. I wrote and illustrated several books including "Hungry for Peace - How you can help end poverty and war with Food Not Bombs" and “The Anarchist Cookbook”. As a co-founder of Food Not Bombs I have helped many people start local Food Not Bombs groups. I have traveled all over the world giving lectures on the history and philosophy of Food Not Bombs and offering help to local chapters.
